Dispelling preconceived ideas about those different around you can be done in more than one way. But one of the greatest ways to really know or understand them, is through prayer and allowing God to reveal, those created in his image and likeness as you yourself have been. He will give you the accurate view, of those your neighbors around you.
Genesis 1:26. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
